SEEING SPIRITUALLY
A Spiritual Way of Seeing

by Peter Gabel
Tikkun

How can developing a spiritual worldview help you understand and transform the ill health of our social, economic, and political systems? In this article, Gabel writes, “our existence itself is animated by the desire to realize ourselves as social beings through connection with others, through the grace of love and mutual recognition.” Seeing spiritually, as Gabel articulates, may offer us all transcendence from the “legacy of fear of nonrecognition and humiliation by the Other” that has caused so much pain and marginalization around the world. With the events of the Supreme Court this week—today’s decision promoting of love and recognition and yesterday’s vote leaving us open to our legacy of fear—a spiritual framework that reverences humanity’s intrinsic interconnectedness seems worth taking seriously.

HONORING THE OTHER
Who Is The Other

by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

Have you ever found yourself expecting a loved one to take all your pain away? Or, on the contrary, failed to recognize the humanity in those who differ from you? This article explores this paradoxical dynamic of “the other.”  In citing a few different examples, Oriah challenges us to undergo the difficult yet rewarding work of self-introspection. It is by understanding and embracing our true selves, we learn that “[h]olding the tension between these two truths – the knowledge that the other is both another myself and wholly other – is how we find a way to dance together.”

by India Arie
OWN Super Soul Sunday

Who are your heroes?  What are their truths?  Your truths? India Arie shares insights from her four-year hiatus, during which she learned to discern when (and how) to trust her voice.
