Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking)

Muslims around the world will be celebrating the fast-breaking festival, Eid al-Fitr, when the new moon is first sighted tonight or, more likely, tomorrow. The celebration brings closure to Ramadan, a month of fasting. Perhaps seen as the light at the end of a month of dedicated prayer and contemplation,  Eid al-Fitr is about cultivating a sense of joy and unity through gratitude to and remembrance of God as well as forgiveness of and connection to others.

So, when you see the new moon this week, consider how these themes help you to feel joy and unity:

  • Gratitude
  • Remembrance
  • Forgiveness
  • Connection
